The narrative put forward by Maitliss is the one you're likely to have heard.
But that isn't what really happened.
The kids lost their care. Some took their own lives. Nobody was 'saved'.
There is no 'trans ideology', just people who needed help.

Remember, when journalists just let trans people live their lives in peace, it’s “ideological capture”, but when they use their own personal anti-trans beliefs to lead a campaign to close down the only place in the country trans youth received healthcare, it’s absolutely fine, nothing to see here.

The chaos in the BBC is yet more proof that the pillars of the 20th century are collapsing in the 21st century. From the two-party system to the national broadcaster, the old certainties are falling apart. The decline has far to go. Is democracy itself next?

My column in @heraldscotland.bsky.social
Crisis-hit BBC is just another casualty of the collapse of the 20th century rulebook
Like the Tory-Labour duopoly and the NHS, the BBC is a hangover from an age that’s dying. We must find how to make the media relevant again,…

I don't often call for resignations. But Sir Robbie Gibb's role in the BBC boardroom coup makes his continued role there untenable. He must resign or be removed
‘Gibb’s supporters say he is trying to save the BBC from itself; he was also heard last year to say that if he didn’t get his way, he would “blow the place up”.’
“a group of politically-appointed directors has forced the hand of Samir Shah, the chair, and the departure of the two most senior people in the organisation. Their resignations should be called out for what they are: political interference..”1/

Incredible that Robbie Gibb - most influential person on BBC board by many accounts and from journalists I speak in BBC - was involved in setting up GB News.

GB News of course has breached Ofcom rules on *multiple* occasions - no sign of resignations though

The idea the PM and SoS don't influence the appointment of the DG is laughable not least when the PM is tanking and needs a compliant state broadcaster more than ever (I managed the CMS Selcom so pls don't tell me that's Not How It Works either)
Seeing so many posts about who “Starmer and Nandy” will appoint as director general. Easy mistake but the government does not appoint the director general! The BBC board, whose members are appointed for rolling terms by the culture secretary, appoints the director general.

Neither is any loss and particularly to BBC News, where the influence of Robbie Gibb has been catastrophic, destroying its journalistic reputation.
The chances of whomever succeeds them not also being right-wingers and continuing the destruction is minimal.

When I saw this I thought it was an Onion-style gag riffing on the awfulness of the spineless and power-pleasing New York Times of recent years. I mean, "conservative feminism". That's so ludicrous that I laughed and scrolled on.
But, of course, it is real and the NYT is utterly undone.

As coroners continue to issue PFD reports citing delays in accessing gender affirming care as contributing to the preventable deaths of trans people, our government forcibly chooses to detransition trans youth.

What’s happening in Brighton is unconscionable. It puts children in danger.

Meanwhile…
Please read this statement by Anne Health.

Trans children are being subjected by Sussex NHS to the physical torture of being forcibly detransitioned.

This is unnecessary cruelty and in my view constitutes torture, violence and child abuse on the part of NHS Sussex.
