I knew 2 ppl growing up who had leg issues from polio. 1 was younger than me, her parents thought vaccinations were bad. The 2nd was an older person and just missed getting the vaccine and was a very small child when he got polio.
Survivors are touched for life by it.

Done the math... I've donated about 1 human adult girl of about 140lbs worth of blood.
Hell yeah, I’m up to 4 gallons of blood donated (lol ew) which is only half a gallon away from 3 full humans-worth (again, ew).
Before you know it I will have donated the blood volume of The Bee Gees. Or blink-182.
Eventually even a full My Chemical Romance, but that’ll take me another decade.

As an Anglophone in Quebec I understand this far to well.
On the one hand, I sat on my glasses and crushed them. On the other hand, in explaining this to nice optician I successfully conjugated the past tense of the verb s'asseoir (to sit) without pulling a muscle in my brain.
