I feel like @lizcookkc.bsky.social's substack subscribers should get together to buy this for her for christmas.
"Malort advent calendar" is already such an unhinged concept but every little window just having Malort in it really pushes it over the edge into something transcendently funny

I love books too! I edit books during the day and then I read books at night to relax! Books are the absolute best

I love books. They have been my whole thing since I was very small. I have a whole podcast about how great it is that people write books. I'm dreaming up new projects celebrating books and the book ecosystem.

I am all in on books, kids.

New! Listen to my interview w/ Mary Frances Phillips about her book BLACK PANTHER WOMAN (@nyupress.bsky.social), how the dissertation and book dramatically differ, and the tools she uses, from tech to office supplies. I love how she thinks about play in her process. draftingthepast.com?p=2789

Very much enjoying listening to the lovely @drjoannepaul.bsky.social with @katecarp.bsky.social on @draftingthepast.bsky.social. And now I want to know what the best books were that she read on life-writing and writing biographies! 😊 🗃️

I wish I could say that I purposefully picked a very New York-centric historian for today's Drafting the Past, but let's just all agree to pretend I am that good of a planner. Listen to my interview with this great historian of New York immigrants while you wait for election results!
New! I talked with Tyler Anbinder about his approach to writing and revising--plus, you'll learn about the person who told this celebrated historian he would never write trade book! We dug into his newest book, PLENTIFUL COUNTRY (@littlebrown.bsky.social). Listen: draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...

I'm experimenting with more ways of putting history writing in the spotlight. To that end, I founded up some of the history books out this week that caught my eye: draftingthepast.com/new-releases... Are you planning to read any of these?

I have a general sense of everything being more expensive, but I was just looking up which waffle maker I have to tell a friend, and realized it costs twice as much today as it did two years ago when I bought it. Wild.

The lack of responses to this is really bumming me out.

What a great conversation. Had a thought about something I’m writing and also just ordered the new bio of Thomas More! This podcast does the work. 😁
New! I had great fun talking w/ @drjoannepaul.bsky.social about how she embraces creativity and artistry and how she writes vividly about Tudor history. If you've ever dreamed of writing a history that reads almost like a novel, you're going to love this episode. draftingthepast.com/podcast-epis...

If I get a table at the @historians.org annual conference exhibit hall for Drafting the Past, will you come tell me your favorite piece of writing advice for a bonus episode?

This was brilliant - I was nodding along as Jo was talking. Great writing advice and a lot of honesty about the process of recreating the past on the page. Helps to explain why Jo’s work is so good.
