Some have said the assisted dying debate has been "parliament at its best". I'm not so sure. Instead I think religion has quietly played a dominant role in the debate, distorted the conversation, with few believing MPs being straightforward about why. My piece for the i. inews.co.uk/opinion/mps-...
MPs are being dishonest about why they oppose assisted dying
For many, religious belief plays a part - and MPs should make clear when that is the case

Added bonus––I think @trevorwoodwrite.bsky.social is an Arsenal fan.
Chapeau @trevorwoodwrite.bsky.social ! Your brilliant detective thriller (in more ways than the usual) is so right for a TV adaptation. Looking forward to the next in the series
Delighted to announce that The Silent Killer has been optioned for TV by FilmNation TV UK which makes the @wearebookanista.bsky.social review seem very prescient indeed.

Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Mom: when you're finished arguing, could you please put your damn cups in the dishwasher instead of leaving them next to the sink like you always do?
Optimist: the cup is half full

Pessimist: the cup is half empty

Creative writing lecturer: describe the cup without using the word ‘cup’, ‘half’, or ‘empty’. You’ve got 15 minutes.
Optimist: the cup is ½ full

Pessimist: the cup is ½ empty

Illustrator: Depending on the angle, you may not be able to see what’s in the cup at all. You need to be more specific in your brief. What else is around the cup that we need to be able to see?

I was surprised when they featured it on a banner ad on the website for me. It's definitely not getting any attention, though. They're putting nothing behind it.

Here's the trailer

Oddly soothing
Anyway…

Here’s a visualization of all the curse words being used on Bluesky in real time.

Each word is a cute fluffy little profane cloud.

It’s oddly soothing.

Being stuck at home all day waiting for EVRI to deliver a package has its advantages. I used it is an excuse to do fuck all aside from snacking and reading The Whisper Man by @alexnorth.co.uk from cover to cover. Great read.

Package didn't arrive so may have to read another book tomorrow. So sad.

This is how you become a writer: just pick one of the things that is deeply wrong with you. Make it a character. Now send it on a self-help journey or try to kill it. Now call it a book.

I have shared a ton of publishing advice over the years, but I think my number one recommendation is to find a way to separate the art from the business in your mind, and to hold on tight to that distinction.
