Reminder: OpenAI promised this transparency when they were formed. They never did what they promised.
Open AI doesn't want to be transparent about what's in their datasets - this bill would force them. If you're pro AI regulation (esp if you're in Bay Area), please show up and offer your support for this bill! If you can't make it, help spread the word!

NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

Waymo reported an apparent phantom braking leading directly to being rear ended. Waymo and other mfg are supposed to report why their robots/ADS stop. When they don't it is presumed to be for no good reason, ie phantom braking, for which there have been NHTSA investigations and ADS recalls.

Read all the way to the last graf.
The young Tom Stoppard had applied for a job on the foreign desk of the London Times. Asked if he were interested in foreign affairs, Tom said, “Yes.” "He was then asked to name the foreign minister of Great Britain and he replied, 'I said I was interested, I didn’t say I was obsessed.'”
David Mamet: Tom Stoppard and Me
Legendary playwright Tom Stoppard was a Holocaust survivor and an immigrant, but he wrote the most English and Anglophile of works, writes David Mamet for The Free Press.

I want to make this clear: he's favorably comparing Paris with some of the most monstrous empires in history. He's not saying Paris invented anything new, only that it has achieved parity with history.

(He notes the Revolution, but omits the pivotal Women's March)

Did this guy not have an editor?
Victor Hugo is the worst.

He has one chapter where he compares Paris with historical, typically Roman and Ancient Greek, things in a very culturally appropriative way, and asks, in a rapture, "Is there anything Paris doesn't have?"

Well, you, mfer. You were in exile when you wrote that line.

Waymo said “Unfortunately, a Waymo vehicle made contact with a small, unleashed dog in the roadway."

MADE CONTACT WITH A SMALL, _UNLEASHED_ DOG.

These companies have an absolute allergy to accountability.

Waymos have killed at least 7 cats and dogs since 2021. Humans kill 1 cat or dog per about 11M vehicle-miles in the USA. (300K dog/cat deaths vs 3.2T vehicle-miles). For us to be 95% confident that Waymo is safer than a human driver, you'd expect it to go 33M miles without a death. It has gone 22M.
A Waymo robot hit another dog, per passenger's report on reddit (attached):

Scott St, San Francisco

Waymo robots have killed at least one dog and hit a few.

Waymo's redacted NHTSA crash report should be publicly avail ~mid-January. FWIW, Waymo's Kitkat crash report should be avail in 2 weeks.

This is further evidence that these robots are less safe than human drivers. Multiple animal deaths at less than 150M miles of operation, which is not what you'd expect for high confidence that they're safe.
