The great Sérgio Mendes would have turned 85 today. 🎂
His song “Mas Que Nada” (1966) was the first US hit to be sung in Portuguese. “It opened a lot of doors for me,” he said, “It’s a great, haunting chant that is fun to play .., but I had no idea it would become such a special song.”
