EVERY famous figurative artist you know used references. Be it live models (which was and is ridiculously expensive and can only be afforded by the rich, or sometimes it was blatant exploitation of homeless people and women), some sort of photography (since camera obscura) or 3d models in our times
Wait till they hear how every famous painter always had models posing or just straight up painted on site. Mucha was super into photos and would put grids on prints to copy them. Rembrandt used camera obscura.
