Caught lobbying for cash or bullying in Parliament? You can still return to the House of Lords - for life.
No real consequences. No accountability.

Ban rule-breaking peers from the House of Lords.
Lords found guilty of serious misconduct – like bullying or lobbying for cash – still get to make our laws. I just signed a petition to kick rule-breaking peers out of the Lords for good. Want to add...

Whilst I'd much prefer to see these companies brought back under public ownership, this is still a big win for those wanting to see improvements.
New laws the Labour government brought in have been used today to ban bonuses being paid out at 6 water companies for failing to meet the high standards required.

They are:

Thames Water, Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities & Southern Water.

Labour delivering again.

Well said #BBCQT

Turns out that paying executives millions in bonuses and shareholders millions in dividends that instead could have been invested in actually ensuring we had clean water to drink is NOT the most efficient way to run water services.

Who knew?

The government is under increasing pressure to bring water into public ownership.
MPs call for public ownership of water after private equity firm abandons Thames Water rescue deal
“Can’t he be tough with it for once and say water is a human right? And it should be publicly owned and publicly run.”

UK approach to bank frauds.

HSBC fined $1.9bn in the US for money laundering. UK Chancellor Osborne, regulators protected it. No investigation.

£1bn HBOS frauds: FCA/SFO passed the buck to LLoyds Bank. Promised report in 2018. None published. No inquiry.

Corporate crime facilitated by the state.
Why the UK is a two-tier society where money wields power
Laws and policies are crafted to give the appearance of sternness and fairness, but are rarely fully enforced on corporations and the rich.
