Kenny Ortega did not make these choices *accidentally*. And so, this book is a love letter to Newsies and all its fans, but it is also a book that grapples with all of those complexities and all of the problems and questions of representation that come with them. 13/16

The world is terrible in so many ways right now, and I am trying to stay focused on what I can control and what brings me joy. While I have promoted the #Newsies book on here, it occurs to me that I haven't really talked about why I love this film and show, and there are so many reasons! 🧵 1/16

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

As a quick reminder for #DisabilityPrideMonth, double spacing is an accessibility issue.

Reasonable margins are an accessibility issue.

Your dyslexic friends want to read your manuscripts, proposals, ads, proofs, and documentation. Please make it easy by adding white space

And are driven by:

I am extremely pro vaccine. (It is horrible that I have to say this, but welcome to our reality).

Vaccines are responsible for a substantial portion of our greatly reduced child mortality.

But don't forget about sanitation. Clean water is also a huge freaking deal.

I think my favorite story from the supplement is how impactful normalization can be in this context.

* Deny insurance to millions
* Cause thousands of preventable deaths

We just gave Senate Republicans a chance to backtrack on their insane $1 TRILLION cuts to Medicaid. Every single one of them voted no.

They are hell bent on cutting health care to help pay for tax cuts for billionaires. Unbelievable.

I realized the first item is semi misleading. Sorry, I have ADHD, but I swear, its about measurement
Love bringing my sister to epi talks because then we have conversations about measurements and how there's a bias that things only exist if you can measure them...

Which lead to a whole digression about things like QOL and recovery and might also be related to insufficient disabled people in STEM 🧵
