well they are notable to Muslims...
New York City is home to about a million Muslims—nearly a quarter of the country’s entire Muslim population. Yet epithets such as “extremist” and “jihadist” are used to describe Zohran Mamdani with such regularity that they’re hardly notable anymore.
What Zohran Mamdani’s Bid for Mayor Reveals About Being Muslim in America
The Islamophobic attacks on the candidate carry the weight of history and the urgency of the present.

My latest must-reads list and my final thoughts for the week. Here, I talk about the first AI-involved murder in the US (that we know of), how the guardrails of reality are being tampered with or removed, and the need to anchor ourselves to each other if we're going to survive these times.

much easier to understand the sheer bloody intensity of the civil war when you have a good grasp on just how terrible slavery was.
"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

Here's my weekly must-reads list, a frontline dispatch from a D.C. organizer, and my final thoughts for the week. One thing I took away from my exchange with Shannon Clark, a mutual aid organizer in D.C., is that "having great networks already in place" has been crucial. Let's all take note.

Aparna is both a tenant and labor organizer - need more of those people on city councils. check out the launch video
People are being forced out of DC. The cost of living is too high, and Trump is waging an all-out assault on the District.

It should be easier and more affordable to build a life here.

That's why I’m running for DC Council in Ward 1.

Which is what identity politics as coined by the Combahee River Collective, was intended to do. Be the center of a critical politic that builds solidarity within and across identities that share that questioning of power, not a replacement for that critical politic.
Mamdani does what I've been calling constructive politics: appeals to identity as a building block of solidarity rather than a replacement for it. love to see it
Mamdani turned up at BAYO at Barclay Center yesterday and said he was going to fight to get Haiti off the travel ban and he said Haiti correctly
