It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.

The “Because I Got High” song but it’s updated for this phase of your life and called “Because My Kid Got Sick in the Middle of the Night.“

There’s got to be a joke in here somewhere - I requested cleanup of glass in a bike lane and the issue was assigned to Sewer Maintenance

Blue cities should tear up the roads in front of ICE facilities and then start decades of community engagement and input sessions to rebuild them. Let's harness our core competencies.

Celebrating 1 year of e-bike ownership today! 1,507 miles in and loving the rewards. #carryshitolympics #bikesky

Aaand to prove my point, today a car illegally turned left through the diverter in the first picture on my ride back home from work.
This is cool, and ALMOST really well done. I’m glad Tacoma is doing bike infrastructure, especially in under-served communities. But next time let’s beef up the diverter curbs so cars can’t just drive right through them…

Gotta love Ryan Rowland-Smith misgendering Bluey on the Mariners broadcast 😂

I love being surprised by new bike infrastructure in the wild.

My six year old calls the power button a “G,” as in “just press the G to turn it on, dada.” I obviously haven’t taught her about Base 2 or Harald Bluetooth yet.

We played Brew53 today - it was a really fun event with great hosts. Thanks Tacoma Arts Live!

We did a blackberry hunt on the bike today. It’s an underrated way to explore the city with a kiddo.

This is the most real kid conversation. Pretend devices and asking to see pictures of literally everything…
"I made us tablets so we can text each other! Google, show me pictures of dead birds."

Tonight my daughter was reading her bedtime stories to me and she pronounced “gopher” as “goop her” and honestly it’s an improvement

Let’s normalize not apologizing to people for our houses being messy.

6-yr-old: “how old is grandpa?”
Me: “he’s 74.”
6-yr-old: “74, 75, 76, [counts up to] 100! He’s close to being dead!”
“Buddy, that’s rude to say about someone”
“I dunno. Suit yourself!”

Is it weird to say I’m jealous of both of them for getting to hang with each other?
Only thing better than a 3-0 lead is a 6-0 win!

Had a fantastic time talking with @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social about the Mariners, what makes us proud about Seattle, and how she intends to build a more affordable city for more folks and families to enjoy.
Having a great time watching the 4th of July game this afternoon with Seattle baseball writer @johntrupin.bsky.social

We’re up 3-0. Go Mariners! #ThisIsYourCity

This is also a great tool for emergency preparedness.
My most recent addition: a sillcock key to operate those commercial hose spigots on the side of buildings if I need to get water somewhere. (Hat tip to most epic bike tourer @truemarmalade.bsky.social for the very good recommendation.)

I just saw a guy wearing a Robert Swift Sonics jersey in Walla Walla. I’m not even sure if Robert Swift’s parents own a Robert Swift jersey.

I’m generally pretty anti-brand-loyalty, but sorting through my daughter’s art supplies today I realized how fiercely in the bag I am for Crayola crayons and Dixon Ticonderoga pencils.

The 6-year-old thinks the lyrics to Hot To Go are “H-O-T-E-O-G-O, you can take me far to go”

Last day of school tradition - go see a baseball game!

Played a gig last night that was a ton of fun. Hot tip: book gigs on the last day of school and invite a bunch of teachers. They were ready to get down!
