This year is the 150th year of competitive baseball in Seattle! I took a look back at Seattle and the surrounding areas in 1877, and got to know the team that started it all: the Alki Base Ball Club. They captured Seattle's hearts and we haven't been without baseball since.
Seattle, We Have a Base Ball Team! The Seattle Alkis and the Arrival of Competitive Base Ball in 1877
100 years before the Mariners played their first season, the Alkis gave Seattle fans their first taste of the base ball epidemic.

I'm actually fine with an MLB salary cap if it comes with a cap on ticket prices at like $25 for the best seats and $5 for the worst, and free MLB tv with no blackouts. How will teams make money you ask? That is simply not my concern.

Ahhh, look at the Mariners re-signing Mitch Garver, as a treat for me!

I feel like I won’t be a real Tacoman until I find a Monkeyshine, but I’ve also never specifically gone out to look for one.

I love this! The highlight of the Olympics right here. And quite honestly, anyone who views sports (or life!) like that should be laughed at derisively.
Normalize laughing derisively in men's faces when they deserve it.

Random memory. After the Olympics that Tara Lipinski won my French teacher was talking about it and said he didn't like her because her smile was annoying. And in hindsight, that's extremely inappropriate! But on the list of inappropriate things that happened in that class, it's near the bottom 😬

NBC sure gets rid of stuff fast! I was going to go back and watch some of the ice dancing stuff I missed and the team competition and it's all gone 😭

I have accepted that there will be no snow this year. Bring on the crazy spring weather, sun to hail to pouring rain to pouring rain while it’s sunny to sunny with dark clouds to light, sprinkling rain. I love the weather whiplash. I’m ready.

I'm sorry, I know everyone loves dogs for some reason, but if there was a gigantic dog chasing me while I was in the OLYMPICS!!! I would lose my mind and flip out. Like, wtf is a dog doing there to begin with?!

Back to normal life tomorrow. It’s been a good long weekend, full of leisuring (Bridgerton pronunciation).

It’s hailing, which is not snow, so yeah, we’re still in a fight, weather.

Afternoon coffee will fix me.

Sucks to have to cancel the Olympics, but I think we can all agree that we're too emotionally destroyed to go on.
February 17, 2026 at 10:14 PM
Sports are so brutal. I hate sad crying at the Olympics.

I mean, if you're gonna have an inappropriate relationship with your sister-in-law, you gotta do it in the most public, messy way possible, right? Go big or go home.

I asked for snow and it gave me a dusting of graupel. My complicated and unfulfilling relationship with the weather continues.

Long weekend reading! It's like reading about now, except the names are different and it happened 80-70 years ago!
February 17, 2026 at 2:17 AM
Just sitting, waiting, wishing at the window because it’s basically 32 degrees and the clouds are heavy.

I already know the weather is going to tease me all week and keep me on tenterhooks, but I want snow so bad I’m going to let it, even though I know better. Le sigh.

Kids are watching a newfangled version of Carmen Sandiego and the theme song is all wrong! Where’s Rockapella?!
February 16, 2026 at 3:01 PM
Made up a new bedtime song for the kids to the tune of Golden. They love it
(narrator: They hate it)

We're goin' up, up, up, up to beeed
You know our teeth we're brushin'
Going to, going to beeed
Oh, up, up, up to our beeed
Going to, going to beeed

Kid, whining: I'm soooo tiiiiiirreeeeeeddd
Me: Do you want to get into bed now?
Kid: Huh? Why?

Honestly, though, relatable 😂

Got some VERY conflicting responses to this 😂 Which is exactly why I need to read it. I want a strong opinion on it!
I’ve never read Wuthering Heights, but all this discourse about it is making me think I should.

Snow is, for the first time this winter, legitimately in the #Seattle forecast. But sorry to say for snow fans, it's not the most exciting snow forecast we could bring you.

I really need to bleach part of my hair more, but I’ve seen too many videos of people bleaching their hair for too long and having it just break so I’m going to just live with it like this. Bleach is scary. It’s so crazy they just let you do this at home without adult supervision.
