This year is the 150th year of competitive baseball in Seattle! I took a look back at Seattle and the surrounding areas in 1877, and got to know the team that started it all: the Alki Base Ball Club. They captured Seattle's hearts and we haven't been without baseball since.
Seattle, We Have a Base Ball Team! The Seattle Alkis and the Arrival of Competitive Base Ball in 1877
100 years before the Mariners played their first season, the Alkis gave Seattle fans their first taste of the base ball epidemic.

Exactly one month until my fantasy draft begins. Gotta start researching and preparing. Lotta pressure when you're the defending champion.

The “Notable Alumni” section of my high school’s Wikipedia page lists 3 people, none of them what I’d consider “famous”, so I suppose there’s still a shot for me to become the famous person to go to my high school.

Today is my Friday because it is the kids’ Friday and I am a-okay with that! We somehow got through all the Valentine’s Party stuff, the fundraiser ends today, and the levies passed, so suddenly I have my time back! Plan to mostly just binge read and watch ice skating this weekend and I cannot wait!

Been toying with the idea of doing a series on the 1996 Mariners because I think it’s a fascinating year in Mariners history, and everyone is going to be doing stuff on 2001 and I want to be different. I’m just worried I’ll write a couple installments then totally lose interest, as I’m wont to do 😂

10 year old: Mom the sourdough grew a lot!
Me: Yeah, yeah, that’s what it’s supposed to do.
*opens the fridge later* Oh! Yes, yes it did 😂

All together now! Niiiiiiiiiiice!

(Percentages for Prop 2, Prop 1 is into 70% yes votes!! While that's better, it's not as nice. I also have questions for the people voting differently on the two propositions.)

Motion to cancel Valentine's Day this year on account of I don't think I have it in me to figure out all the stuff for two kids' parties at school tomorrow, the details of which I've literally only learned 2 days ago and this morning. Agh.

Booo!!! Why can’t skating judges be corrupt in a good way???
February 11, 2026 at 9:57 PM
Maybe it’s because I’m predisposed to hate them, but the whole vibe from the evil French is that they take themselves too seriously and it almost feels cartoonish in that sense, like it’s a parody of people taking their art too seriously.

France's Viral Ice Dancing Team Has A Dark Backstory | Defector
Blink and you might not have caught it. On Monday, Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry took to the rink and staked their claim to the ice dancing gold medal. Dancing to Madonna’s “Vogue,” ...

Oh my god I loved every single thing about that. Holy shit that was so good!!!
February 11, 2026 at 9:45 PM
Not to be dramatic, but the evil French team must be destroyed.

The British team is delightful. So much fun. I didn’t see any mistakes. Not sure what you’re talking about.

I don’t know anything about ice dancing so I really don’t have anything to say about it, but just know I’m sitting here watching and squealing because it’s all so good and I’m enjoying this very much.

I like THIS French team a lot!

(Unless you tell me they’re evil too. My likes are always conditional on meeting a very basic level of being a kinda okay person.)

Lol school excused 8 year old’s absence to go to the Seahawks parade. Not that it matters because he wouldn’t have any other unexcused absences, but I’ll take it anyway!

It’s honestly really unnerving and upsetting how many people are dying in their 40s (and younger). Celebrities and regulars alike.

I love ice dancing so much. It’s such a horny sport. It’s the best.

(Does not apply to the sibling duos lol)

Did another drop this morning and I think it's very safe to say that the school levies will pass easily and phew! It won't really fix anything, but it'll stop the bleeding for a little while and maybe we can start taxing the incomes of the richos in the meantime? Yeah?!
Woot! Woot! First ballot drop is in super majority territory! (Only need simply majority to pass.) Bodes well!

A lot of people don’t know this, but Ken Griffey Jr invented the broken hamate bone in 1996.

Last time the Seahawks won the Super Bowl I lived in LQA and it was easy to just walk to a parade spot. Husband is taking 8 year old today, and I hope that everyone there has a great time and enjoys the hell out of it, but the logistics of getting there, well, I’ve got JOMO (joy of missing out) 😂

The Mariners are going to announce their list of players who have been secretly mortally wounded and injured all winter during the trophy presentation tomorrow, aren’t they?

Here’s one I saw in Vendor’s Row, between T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field, last week during FanFest.

I hope we find a more permanent way to mark these spots, because our neighbors deserve to be remembered.

This should never have been allowed to happen. We should all be deeply ashamed.

I generally have no reaction to the word moist, but I just read an article that described Red Faber As a ”moist-ball hurler” and the ick it gave me
