the law is real until it gets to SCOTUS at which point it becomes fake, which doesn't bother the six reactionaries at the top but does undermine literally everyone else in the profession

Federal govt keep denying bond hearings to immigrants even though the feds keep losing habeas petitions. Their goal is to make people desperate enough that they’ll sign up for voluntary deportation, inflict pain so people leave, even if they have deep ties and good records in USA
A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the U.S. government’s mandatory detention of Diana Patricia Santillana Galeano, the day care teacher arrested at a Chicago preschool, is illegal and she must be given a bond hearing.
Judge rules mandatory detention of Chicago day care teacher by ICE is illegal
According to the ruling, Diana Santillana will be given a bond hearing in front of an immigration judge, who could order her released while her civil deportation case proceeds.

Aerial drone view of the Boston Common today for #NoKings rally. Organizers say 125,000 patriots gathered today to send Trump a message that we are growing stronger, bigger and bolder.

Boston Police didn't like the drone and shut it down, but not before it took this great shot of the crowd.

at last we have an answer as to the question of whether a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich
Federal prosecutors on Tuesday were unable to secure a felony assault indictment against a man who threw a sandwich at a federal agent on the streets of Washington this month, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Undocumented immigrants contribute nearly $100 billion in taxes every year.

Meanwhile, the wealthiest 1% dodge $163 billion in taxes annually.

The real drain on America isn’t coming from the border — it’s coming from the boardroom.

Arresting a United States Senator (or anyone for that matter) for asking a question is a disgrace. This should be universally condemned and yet, I expect it won’t be. Good for Senator Padilla for attempting to stand up to this administration. #FirstAmendment #AlexPadilla

The protesters in LA are exercising their constitutional freedoms. Peaceful demonstration is protected by the First Amendment for moments like this. The government response isn't just excessive. It's an attack on our democracy. #1A #ProtestIsPatriotic #ICEProtests

Turnstile’s Never Enough is amazing. Instant album of the year contender. Somehow both polished and raw. It's all summer and vibes played over the theme of heartbreak and existentialism.

SCOTUS just let assault weapon bans stand by refusing to hear the challenge…for now. This feels obvious to me but I doubt it’s the last we’ll hear of this.

Stray from the Path’s new album Clockworked is a straight-up assault—tight, relentless, and unapologetically political. It’s everything fans love about them: groove-heavy riffs and angry vocals, it feels of the moment.
