The story of Ruth Ellis’s execution in 1955 has found its own macabre niche in British folklore, and has been been the subject of several film, stage and TV treatments. Perhaps the most memorable of t...

An intriguing essay about staid musical biopics that walk the line and few that don’t (A Better Man)

I’d recommend Miles Ahead and Rocketman, too
In an age of Walk Hard knock-offs, why are the biopics that continue to play it safe the biggest success stories?

I wish the Oscars were more like the Grammys: 10 to 12 hours long, 94 awards, an accusation of pedophilia here or there, best actress determined via armrest consoles after a series of fistfights.

Movie recommendation - "William Tell" - rousing, old school adventure starring Claes Bang as the Swiss folk hero. It's a fun, like a classic where the credits unroll in scroll font & every version Robin Hood now playing on HBO/Max. #filmsky📽️

Mangold’s car fight movie earned a “Hmmmph. All right” review from my dad.
Cop Land: Hmmph.
3:10 to Yuma. Westerns I like. Some good actors in it
I do not give James Mangold credit for much but I am moderately grateful to him for making the only 21st century movie my dad had any interest in seeing, “Ford Vs Ferrari.”

Always hesitant to post stuff like this bc I work for the NYT & it sounds self-interested. So I will just add: It doesn't need to be my newspaper! Pay for a local newspaper, a newsletter, a nonprofit outlet, a magazine--but support *something* you value if you expect to keep it around
I’m willing to bet that most of us pay more per month in underused streaming/cable fees than the cost of an annual magazine or newspaper subscription (eg $50 NY Mag). Subscribe more, read more, support what matters to you, stop whining about paywalls
