They’re also talking about the consequence of decades of media fear-mongering about crime served up on a bed of racism. People “feel” afraid because every day they see lead stories on local & national news about crime.
I hate it when weak-minded media such as the Washington Post say that DC crime is dramatically down but "many residents still do not feel safe." They're talking about an *information problem* more than a crime problem. Right-wing propagandists don't want anyone to feel safe.
