odd to watch the United Airlines CEO at the White House speak at the White House and sound like a Republican member of Congress

Had Harold not died way too young, Chicago would be a very different, better place today.

Mamdani winning would make us more likely to move back to NYC.
@thisamericanlife.org had a similar thought & re-ran their excellent episode from 1997 about Chicago’s first Black mayor. extra compelling because many of the people contributing oral history to the episode have now passed

I pitched Confounding Factors to my husband’s band when they were debating a name (they’re math rock-y but kind of hard to put into a genre)! Their chosen name is fine but missed opportunity…

Or you could get a very large, very warm cat who likes to sleep on your feet.

No hurricanes in the mountains this year, please. For many reasons, including that my mother has taken in another wayward cat. Nine cats in a 2 bedroom condo seems impossible in a way that eight cats somehow didn't.

Who is running against Bowser? I didn’t want to vote for her last election and I sure as hell don’t want to in 2026.

The "Why I left The Washington Post" essays are the new "Why I am joining The Athletic" essays.
Really wild look inside WaPo here, from the guy who led its fact-checking column until he took a buyout and left

“The buyouts have removed some of The Post’s biggest traffic generators — and I don’t see a strategy to replace what has been lost.”

Black cats, best cats.
Maiori opened the medicine cabinet so she could use it for leverage to jump on the shower rod, in case you were wondering what it's like having a normal cat.

Random group of dudes walking down Mass Ave. yelling “Fuck Donald Trump” is louder than the fireworks. Now a random group of women has started to chant with them.

Expecting bigger crowds at the Dupont Circle farmers market tomorrow.

Less than 10 blocks from the “party” and there’s more traffic and noise at 7:30am on a Sunday morning.

It also always seems worth mentioning that kids didn't "lose" learning in that they know less than they did before the pandemic. They did not learn as much as kids *before* the pandemic. Fondly, your neighborhood pedant

There are many, many different police forces in DC and somehow the park police manage to stand out for their awfulness.
Fear not, we are safe! Dupont Circle is secure from the queers

The police presence is absurd, of course. Dozen vehicles at least

My gut is one of the GOP/MAGA closet cases decided this

I’d be there. And I can’t even eat most breakfast cereals.
i think that if i organized a “Bouiecon” where people got together and, i don’t know, talked breakfast cereals and the constitution, i could get more than 200 people to show up
