Just poured boiling water over my hand while draining pasta. It did not feel awesome. Here's hoping everyone else's night is less painful.

Got my first "I don't think you're grieving the right way" comment recently. While it seemed to come from a place of caring (and some irritation), it really threw me.

Protip: no matter your intention, NEVER say this to a grieving person. Until you go through the same experience, you have NO right.

Looking forward to learning all about how the right should move left to win elections tomorrow. They should maybe dye their hair pink, learn to love pronouns.

Fellow Oaklanders and East Bay folks - the new East #Oakland Hyphy Burger opened earlier this week! International Ave, just south of 98th.

Is anyone tracking baseball teams that have the fewest number of players spitting or chewing their cud? Do players still gnaw on tobacco or is it just seeds/bad habits? Either way, such a gross habit. Get these guys therapy for their oral fixation already!

Ditto. And when I couldn't give money, I gave them my time. YMMV, but most food banks need volunteers to help sort, bag, and distribute food! If you have a free morning or day, consider volunteering (and see if your employer is willing to let your team do it during working hours).
You know what we donate to the local food pantries? We donate MONEY. Because they can turn that money into what those they serve need the most. I do not know what those folks need better than the food pantry does. So I give them my dollars and they turn them into something useful.
Sweet Jesus, do not donate seeds to your food bank in October. Honestly, don’t donate seeds to your food bank unless you are specifically asked to, and even then I would think REALLY HARD about whether that’s regionally appropriate.

When I needed food donations, I was in student housing.

Just made a prime rib for the first time ever and nailed it. Today was the first day I've felt close to normal since my mom was rx'd with metastatic cancer in May and died in August. Used her cutting board and utensils, and the roast she'd bought & frozen. Assuming that's why it tasted fantastic. 💔

So tonight kicks off the Jewish new year and high holidays, goyim are claiming that there's a rapture in the next couple days, and we're having a series of little earthquakes in the bay area. Oy vey. This Jew is tired and done with this year.

Well, I guess it's that time of the year again. Time to get these cut up and juiced. 🌱

✅ Flu vax
✅ updated COVID vax

Feeling more grateful than usual to live in CA today and get both jabs without any issues.

Oh man, this hurts. My first job after college was working for Heyday in sales/marketing/PR from '99-01. I learned so much from Malcolm. His memory will surely continue to be a blessing to his family, friends, and the huge community he built.

I was gifted this lovely little plant recently. 🌱 buddies -- is this a begonia? Seek couldn't provide a definitive answer.

Getting ghosted by my HVAC installer was not on my bingo card today. Ugh.

There goes one pair of gardening shoes.... My newer pair of Keens are still in too good shape to be demoted, so I may need to splurge on proper gardening shoes. What are your faves, fellow 🌱 pals?

A curse on the financial institutions and their employees who chose to fuck with me and my family today: may they be blessed with the same levels of customer service incompetence and cluelessness we were shown today when they're facing a similar situation.

Life turned upside down 13 days ago -- not in a good way -- and the only upside is that I don't have the energy or time to focus on the shitshow that is the US or world politics right now.

PSA: When you publicly pontificate over whether the shooting of the Israeli embassy staffers was "antisemitic or merely anti-Zionist", every Jew--of any view on Israel--understands that you're silently evaluating our connections to Israel to decide whether our murders would be worth mourning over.

Paging @lwballard.bsky.social ... Has your corgi ever tried skateboarding?
Corgis have an extremely low center of gravity and the density of a dead star.

PERFECT for skateboarding! 😇

The same people who say Adriana Smith should stay hooked up to machines so a fetus can gestate inside her dead body for 7 months because “it’s a sacrifice a mother would make” can’t fathom a mother crossing the border with her children in hopes of providing a better life for them.

Good things are happening in my backyard 🌱! Cherries are ripening up quickly, winter squashes are growing and starting to fruit, and my sugar snap peas are amazing. Peaches and plums are still a couple months out
