Hey, Bluesky! I’m a T32 postdoc at Pitt, studying how parents—especially dads—help young kids develop self-regulation skills to prevent psychopathology. Outside of work, I’m into puzzles 🧩, podcasts 🎧, and hanging with my cat 🐱!

Pushed my student to ask for feedback on her predoc fellowship application from a program officer (PO) at NIH. This used to be a near-necessity; they would tell students about recent rule changes that might affect them, for example.

PO responded w/a form email that they can't give feedback. Yikes.

Seems like a good time to bump this excellent piece written by (at the time) trainees. Highlights many longstanding issues with the internship model as well as insights gleaned from new challenges encountered during the pandemic.

I received one of the 232 NIH grant "terminations" sent to scientists at Columbia last night. My research focuses on improving maternal and child health in the US. Also affected: ongoing clinical trials, research training programs, and research centers that aim to improve the health of Americans.
Hundreds of research grants at Columbia canceled following Trump edict, administrator says
The National Institutes of Health is terminating 232 grants for scientific research at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, according to an email an administrator sent to faculty.

Let me be very clear. Jews are being used to justify the destruction of higher education. We need to stand up and openly oppose these actions, no matter our feelings about the campus protests.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
I have confirmation from several sources now that all T32s, many F30s and F31s, and most or all Center awards (P30, P50) have been terminated at Columbia.

This is quite damaging to research and to individuals.

This is pure terrorism and cannot be legal. But litigation will take time...

As a Jewish faculty member at one of these institutions, I am saying right now, in the clearest tones possible: not in my name. This violent exploitation of Jews as an alibi for achieving Fascist ends is itself textbook antisemitism.
The Ed. Department's Office for Civil Rights sent letters to 60 additional institutions "warning them of potential enforcement actions" for "violations relating to antisemitic harassment and discrimination" including Harvard, Brown, Stanford, Princeton, UNC, and several UC's
