To say that the majority of Trek fans are right wing and that women don’t *really* like it is something that only a real trek fan would know that only a fake Trek fan would say

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

The first draft of my senior capstone paper, a 35 page monstrosity on the human reactions to natural disasters in large city centers, was completed a writing spree fueled by monster energy drinks, nyquil, and coffee 2 days before the first draft was due.

LLM got nothing on me.

Eric has managed to put my vague feeling of discomfort around inclusive personas into actual words. A must-read!

The breathlessness of product leaders positioning hi-fi vibe prototyping as a solution to the terrible, horrible, no good pain of reading (and writing) is so funny. Tell me you hated nerd culture in hs without telling me.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Maybe the value of AI for you is largely dependent on how you experience knowledge transmission. If you perceive information as something that generates internal thought, you don’t care that GenAI is statistics, but if you filter information by the veracity of its source, you see nothing of value.

Just a reminder: having a functional moral compass right now is going to make you feel bad all the time; don’t mistakenly hate yourself for that.

Mid #Severance finale and I know I’m gonna want to talk about this! Preferably with other #X-Men #Comics fans.

Where is the fandom discoursing these days? BlueSky? Discord? AO3? Tumblr? AV Club? Usenet?

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Confirming what others have discussed or reported, 18F, the elite tech consultancy within TTS/GSA, was formally disbanded overnight. There’s a formal RIF, the legal system in which the government downsizes/layoff people. I’m told it’s 60 days on leave for all involved.

Friday was my last day working at 18F. It was a team of extraordinary people, but a few things happened that made me realize I had to leave.

Everything happens so much these days, so I thought I’d write down for myself what happened, and how I made my decision:

I had a wonderful job, until I didn’t. This is about what happened—and what is happening.
