I swear, this is true. I got my first publishing contract almost ten years ago because the publishing rep liked my fashionista dalek cosplay at a local con. Then I accidentally blurted out a pitch using my autistic blurty trait.

As a theoretical cosmologist, I'm frequently asked "what is the benefit of the work you're doing for people's lives?" Nothing I work on makes money or cures disease.

There are a few different answers one can give, at various levels of "convincing" / "actually relevant to why the work is done."

For today’s posting of #IWSG, I answer the most dreaded, most insipid, most annoying question you can ask a writer: “Where do you get your ideas?”

IWSG: Writing is Like Oxygen
I’m not happy with my writing right now.  I haven’t been doing nearly enough writing.  True, there are a lot of distractions in my life—some good, some not so good—but that’s not import…

If you love space, it naturally follows that you’ll love the Earth, too. Or at least it should.

As you know, I love space, and as you might imagine, I socialize with a lot of other people (both online and I.R.L.) who also love space.  But in the last year or so, I’ve noticed a change in the s…

One of the nicest things anyone's ever said to me was: "You make me want to go learn stuff." When I write, I hope I can inspire other people to want to learn stuff, too.

How Venus Saved Earth’s Ozone Layer
Fun fact about me: Venus is my favorite planet.  I just feel like, out of all the planets in the Solar System, Venus has the most personality.  Granted, it’s the personality of a mad scientist, or …
