Ways earth science has been political:
-Studying climate of the American West brought the concept of Manifest Destiny into question and challenged notions of American expansionism in the 19th century.
-The discovery of Geological Time upended the Biblical timeline
Studying the earth is political. It always has been and it always will be. The difference is that there is now a political party made up of people whose worldviews are threatened by the very existence of a scientific process.
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

Not bad for a volunteer pumpkin plant with no love growing under volunteer tomato plants.

I like Bones. There aren't many stories that show professional pregnant women not just once but repeatedly. That feels rare and it shouldn't.

Every time I look at satellite pictures of the Aral sea I have this deep-seated existential dread. Watching one of the world's largest inland bodies of water disappear in my lifetime is profoundly unnerving.

I thought we all knew that James Bond is like the Dread Pirate Roberts. We treat each new one like there's been no change and we all agree it's still Bond, James Bond.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Do you see the yellow piece that is basically the size of a couple states combined? That is the decimated area from which thousands of people, mostly Alaska natives, have been completely and utterly displaced.

Oh Amtrak. I'd say never change but actually please yes change. Change with abundant funding and engines that don't die mid trip and delay not only that train but all the following trains. I still love you but it hurts a little more every time this happens.

You may have made a mistake at work today but at least it's not a breaking the water main and shutting down the pool in the last week of summer mistake.

Getting real tired of juices containing both sugar and sucralose without explicit labeling. Wondering why your family suddenly has the runs? Check the label on the juice. Sucralose is a great laxative.

I'm doing it. I'm going to see the Hugo awards. In the actual room.

#girlgenius Hated to do it, but we started a GoFundMe. These are chaotic times, and no mistake, and all of a sudden we realized they were chaosing all over us. (www.gofundme.com/f/help-the-f...) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When the US invaded Iraq I was in college and had several professors from Iran. We asked our department head how he felt about what was happening and his final statement was "... we're worried Iran is next."

The signs are spot on and they know deeply what spending cuts directly affect aging. From Parkinson's and Alzheimer's research to NIH and social security there were at least 41 people standing up for themselves and against authoritarianism.

Worth repeating: this is exactly, word for word, what was used to argue against being gay when I was a teenager. “Oh it’s so sad, it’s so dangerous” when the people making it sad and dangerous are the homophobes/now transphobes
This is what drives me insane about rightwing freaks gloating over the trans teenager who committed suicide on X the other day. They claim being trans is dangerous for young people's mental health and it's like. Gee, I wonder why you fucking monsters

I finally watched the second beetlejuice and I feel misled by the Internet in general. I had low expectations and the movie exceeded them but I kept seeing comments that it wasn't *that* bad and instead of listening to myself I let my hopes rise a tiny bit. *Tsk* lesson learned.

Wrath keeps overtaking me everytime I think about RFK. Why? I'm a type 1 diabetic. I got it when I was 14. Guess what you need if you're a type 1 diabetic? Insulin. Or you die. But my family believed that it could be cured with herbs & faith healing. I had a near death experience when I was 14. 🧵
