You can’t be justifying your own pessimism about other Americans like this when we’ve got polling data that says every time a spotlight gets shined on deportation or detention, the polling for Trump on that issue takes a huge hit.

Trump is now threatening 35% tariffs on Canada, one of our closest allies and largest trading partners. Hard to think of a stupider way of running trade policy.

A student paper laments Robert Nozick's lack of discussion of the practical or policy implications of his "principle of rectification." Would his book would have been nearly as widely read, cited, or taught if he had explored those implications at length? My intuition is that it wouldn't have been.

This is a hilarious example of how conservatism's pretenses to limited government, skepticism of majoritarian rule, seperation of powers, and respect for the constitution was always bullshit. But Hillsdale College in particular is one of the most instructive examples of this phenomenon. A long🧵

Seeing as Emil Bove personally fired me from DOJ in retaliation for prosecuting January 6 rioters, I don’t think he should be confirmed to a lifetime seat as a federal judge. But that’s just me.

Universities, even public universities (and what's under discussion is a private one) are part of the plurality of civil society. Universities are older than states, have their own purposes and meaning, and are not reducible to what any political administration tries to accomplish.
