(peasant dying in a ditch during the Thirty Years' War) at least I didn't have to watch Wayne Gretzky and Shaquille O'Neal take the stage during the 2026 World Cup draw, live from the Kennedy Center in beautiful Washington, DC

This wildly tacky World Cup draw is a grimly fascinating preview of what happens if the aesthetics of fascism finally get their way.

“FIFA World Cup draw powered by ARAMCO” is so fucking bleak and a microcosm of this absolute dogshit timeline.

No Mexican on stage for the actual World Cup draw? Representation and irony are dead.

This would make a great comedy. World Cup matches are moved from New York and Los Angeles to small-town Texas and the foreign visitors and MAGA locals have all sorts of awkward interactions as they learn to enjoy the games amid madcap hijinks.

We’re outside the Kennedy Center today where Donald Trump is attending the World Cup draw. The World Cup is a chance for the world to come together but this president is a leader who represents nothing but division, greed, and cruelty.

according to my humble materialist marxism analysis, this is why american institutions are crumbling
We too often look at prices when talking about affordability & not enough at wages. As Harold Meyerson explains, had the bottom 90% earned the same share of national income they did in 1975, by 2023 they would have made an additional $79 trillion!

The $79 Trillion Heist - The American Prospect
We’re in an affordability crisis because workers aren’t being paid at the same levels they earned in the past.

Forget about the Stephen Miller and/or Joe Rogan of the left — as long as “money is speech” in politics we are cooked.

Presidential campaign costing over a billion dollars? Senate campaigns in the hundreds of millions? Congresspeople scared of being primaried for voting against oligarchs?

Yeah.
