Many food banks also accept & distribute cat and dog food.
Many rescues & shelters also have food pantries.
(This is also important, because many people will cut back on quality & volume of food they eat. In order to keep their pets safe at home.) ❤️

New evidence suggests sharks - and possibly other animals - scale like simple geometric shapes. But why? 🧪🌏 My latest for Quanta: www.quantamagazine.org/shark-data-s...
Shark Data Suggests Animals Scale Like Geometric Objects | Quanta Magazine
Despite their wide variety of sizes, niches and shapes, sharks scale geometrically, pointing to possible fundamental constraints on evolution.

Here in Seattle, furloughed NOAA employees were out in the pouring rain cleaning up beaches yesterday, part of a national week of service organized by federal workers who can't do their jobs due to the shutdown.

Trying to quantify intelligence is an inherently eugenicist exercise.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

The insurance industry is broken, especially in wildfire-prone states like California that have been hit hard by climate change. Could a community-based risk reduction model be the solution? Proud to have gotten to co-write this story for @kneedeeptimes.bsky.social with @megduff.com 🌎🧪

This is an important point - things weren’t healthier or magically safer in the past, and we’ve known raw milk carries risks for a long time.
When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?
