In the end, we’re all commoners, and on the one common. All my own personal ramblings.
If you can give $40bn PERSONAL BACKING to this kind of giant corporate takeover the system has given you too much power and wealth to still be called a democracy.
So the system must be changed, before democracy is smothered altogether.

Early this morning, Israeli forces demolished a residential building in the Wadi Qaddum neighborhood of Ras al-Amud, in Silwan in East Jerusalem. The building contained 13 apartments and was home to around 100 Palestinian residents, according to local Palestinian media.  (1/3)

“I carried him on my back. It took seven days.” A camp in eastern Chad is now home to more than 100,000 refugees of Sudan’s civil war, and is a key destination for those fleeing El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State. Resources are strained as the number of newly displaced people increases.

A decade ago, the first Syrian refugees arrived in Northern Ireland. NI ultimately took in more proportionately than anywhere else in the UK. Understanding why this overwhelmingly worked is important as data shows hearts hardening to those fleeing war.

I can't help thinking: the rich pay the right.

They pay the FAR right to keep the poor fighting the poorer instead of combining with them to change the system.

And they pay the MAINSTREAM right to convince the public there's no alternative to that system.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

There we go. The press projecting equivalence of the interests of a tiny but wealthy minority with the interests of the ‘Nation’. The other classic is: “foreigners bad”. Now if you just alternate between the two…

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024.

This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500.

And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

This is what oligarchy looks like:

If you're Elon Musk, the richest man alive, Tesla gives you a $1 trillion pay package & Trump gives you a huge tax break.

If you're a poor kid on SNAP, Trump appeals a court decision that would have prevented you from going hungry.

Obscene.
