Assignment is due in 6 days. So far
83 students haven't clicked on the assessment folder which has the info
81 students haven't opened the handbook
140 students haven't opened the reading list
17 emails asking me what's the word count

It's the second hand anxiety on their behalf that gets me.

Planning out research proposal, collecting data from a pilot, pushing collab who I consider a friend to pursue it further and how it will be an exciting project for us, and I've found out they've applied for a grant to research it without me. Completely blindsided by it and unsure how to address.

Getting an email at nearly 4pm on a Friday from a Journal saying "a decision about your manuscript will be made soon" is exactly the kind of anxiety inducing moment I need the least right now.

For the first time in my academic career I have time (not teaching) to write a grant and go for funding. I am finding this one of the least enjoyable experiences, especially as it's my ~2nd attempt at one. What tips do people have? How do I make this easier?

We must combat bad science & fraud because dodgy 'peer-reviewed' work is being used to give credibility to positions in high-stakes areas with real consequences.
The publishers who let in weak/fraudulent work with minimal scrutiny are complicit.
