It's all really bad, and it's going to get much worse. I guess everyone should have worked harder to prevent Trump from getting elected.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

OMG. Listening to the latest Bugle podcast and @alicefraser.bsky.social popping in with this line made me snort out loud in a very awkward fashion: "I mean, say what you like about Hitler, but he *did* kill Hitler."

Doing quick basic math is easier when you remember simple patterns
4 x 25 = 100
5 x 20 = 100
6 x 15 = 100
7 x 10 = 100
8 x 5 = 100
9 x 0 = 100

Occupying a building (and entering it by force) is qualitatively different than occupying a lawn, and is likely to draw qualitatively different responses. A wise university would still make its response proportional and measured, but students can expect less patience.

Note: 4 years after the 2007-9 recession began, employment was still far below pre-recession peak. It's 4 years since pandemic recession started, and we're up 6 million. Maybe Big Fiscal was a good idea?

The great thing young people don't understand about older people is that we never age in our heads. We don't 'think like old people' because those people aren't us. We're just the 20 somethings we always were in bodies that don't react well to the abuses we subjected them to in our 20s.
