Halifax never finding the budget to pay for its vision comes to mind
Many city halls are deep in budget-time. Some are pushing austerity ideologies, and are ignoring the difference between costs and cost-savers/value creators. Citizens, PAY ATTENTION, and never forget that the TRUTH about a city’s REAL aspirations isn’t found in its visions. It’s found in its budget.

Masterpiece; I remember the song from a long time ago, but as I never managed to get into The Specials, I also forgot about it. Until this week, as I saw that Lankum (one of my favourite bands the last few years) covered it. #TheSpecials #Lankum #music www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ2o...

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.
Sound efficient?

The greatest problem Silicon Valley faces these days is that it's all well and good to have AI writing things that are edited by AI then summarized by AI and then used to train AI, but you have to have somebody in the ouroboros actually paying for it, which is why they have to force it on consumers.
They made... an AI tool... to make AI... which is already built on actual writing... seem less like slop...

Not wide enough to get a sidewalk I guess </s> plenty of (dog) walkers in the brief time that I was there, Portland Estates Blvd W in Dartmouth; a house for sale there was built in 1994, so I guess the whole neighbourhood was built around 30 - 35 years ago

The people who need help are not the problem.
It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

Had a blast at the Halloween Bike Party & Critical Mass ride tonight! All the passerby seem to have thought our music & costumes were fun. It was lovely to see so many people have a touch of joy brought to their evening. Thanks as always to the organizers & ride marshals! #BikeHFX #CriticalMassHFX

Actually make that second wildest.... North Korea spent a week in the news recently for opening a waterpark to boost tourism.

Instead of trying to green cars so much why don't we just invest in trains. city trains. under ground trains. above ground trains. trains between cities. trains between countries. TRAINS

Thanks for the heads up from Suzanne to know i had to do some creative bussing to make it on time to work / it is hilarious though that council starts late because they messed up mobility in the city (and the mayor is convinced he has to make it worse)
Council is late because their Integrated Mobility Plan is failing.
#Halifax regional council is not starting until 10:30. Some councillors are late because of traffic.
I'm still at home and will be watching online. You can watch here:

The desperate need to accumulate more and more at the cost of everyone else’s wellbeing should be classified as a mental disorder, and I will absolutely die on this hill.
Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

If you are confident that a boat near Venezuela is carrying drugs, you stop it and board it. That way, you have evidence.
If you don't really care if a boat near Venezuela is carrying drugs, but you just want to kill people, you blow the boat up. That way, the irrelevant evidence is gone.

I think drivers underestimate how much of a constant calculation we’re doing in our heads (half of it subconsciously) to prioritize our own safety and not get hit by a driver when we’re out walking and cycling.
