Well in update to this, two of the male characters just shared “a kiss unlike any they had received from a woman, a kiss of immortal friendship and absolute certitude that their two hearts would from now on be one, for ever and ever”
The heartbreak of reading a character list in a French Victorian novel, being presently surprised at what seems like a queer subplot, only to find out “Gilberte” is a woman

Infrequent reminder there's no singular way to do this writing thing, save to WRITE. I've written feverishly my entire life, first with fanzines, then stories, then novels. My first novel came out when I was 40. Degree? No. Joyous participant in writer's groups? Yes. But mostly, I wrote my ass off.
