This story was inspired by a conversation with a fossil fuel exec in Paris a few days after the big outage in Spain. He blamed too much renewable energy as the cause.

Was that really it? Turns out: No.

@npr.org takes you through a new report on what happened + impacts of renewable misinformation.
After Spain's blackout, critics blamed renewable energy. It's part of a bigger attack
When millions lost power in Spain and Portugal this spring, some were quick to blame too much solar and wind power. That wasn't the cause, but the misinformation had an impact.

Cool new AER paper uses data from Clean Air Act offset markets to assess the efficiency of air pollution regulation. The analysis finds that marginal benefits of abatement exceed mean offset prices more than ten-fold, across most regions and pollutants.

Nein. Ist nicht okay.

We've reached 1.5°C global warming.
With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7°C warming.
A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world. 🌊

It is a while since I posted this, but just your annual reminder that Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) will never scale to compensate all emissions (& it would be a ludicrously expensive alternative to reductions).

If you like your money, then the razor-sharp focus would be on reducing emissions!
