You have cute 2016 pictures to re-share on your Instagram. I just have pictures of whiteboards with MWG problems on them from my first year of grad school. We are not the same. 🥲

A lot of disabled kids who require 1:1 aides won’t get educated online, but may not be safe to go to school.
Saint Paul schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for optional online learning.

I’ve seen schools close for snow, for pandemic, for natural disaster. I’ve never seen schools close because of threat from our own government.

BREAKING — Mayor of Lewiston, Maine posts on FB that ICE is coming to the city imminently. This confirms my reporting the agency is planning a surge in the city and state generally.

Lewiston is home to a large Somali-American population, which made up 4.6% of the population as of the 2020 census.

enjoyed hosting the reception to honor the inaugural Janet L. Yellen Award for Excellence in Public Service at #ASSA2026! A full house toasted her achievements in economics in public service and many were able to meet Janet Yellen!

To add to this: we know so little about how internal resource allocation decisions are made within and across higher education institutions and what their impacts are on students, faculty, etc.

A ripe area for an enterprising grad student to try to get their hands on some data!
For my higher ed niche: WHY DO UNIVERSITIES STILL VARY FUNDING FOR DEPARTMENTS BASED ON "FIRST" or "SECOND" MAJOR?

Do you know why most students declare one major first or one major second? It ain't usually because of intellectual priorities, but whether an advisor is free on a given day.

Immigration policy is #EdPolicy 😞
Checking in with two different Twin Cities school districts over the weekend. They saw absenteeism close to 30 percent or more due to federal immigration enforcement agent activity fears last week.

93% of economists polled by IGM markets earlier this year agreed that "Giving the President more direct influence over monetary policy would lead to substantially worse monetary policy decisions", half of the people who disagreed were people who actually agreed but just pressed the wrong button

Semester ended.
ChatGPT's growth plateaued and appears to have started to collapse, this chart is kinda hard to read so it's hard to tell if it's down 22% week over week, or whether on a three month basis traffic is down. Either way, this is not good

There is a threat to Minneapolis so extreme that *every child in the city* has been forced to stay home from school.

That threat does not come from immigrants.

There has only been one murder in Minneapolis in 2026. It was federal agents' killing of a 37 year-old US citizen/mother in her minivan.

5/ Many of the loudest arguments for simplifying schedules come from people who are lucky enough to experience reliable care, stable insurance, and flexibility at work. But public health guidance has to work for everyone. Timing, access, and support systems are part of what makes vaccines effective.

1/ Well, he did it. He actually did it.

RFK Jr. just issued a unilateral directive to overhaul the U.S. childhood vaccine schedule. This isn’t based on new data or new evidence, and he bypassed every scientific and clinical process we have, including not taking public comment.
