This may be an unpopular opinion, but I really dislike the epithet "Sacred" for a prehistoric context. I very often see people referring to "Sacred Mountains" and I think this narrows the way we think about these places, and may be completely wrong... or right! But definitely limiting...

The first scientific evidence corroborating the medieval presence of the "Black Death" in Edinburgh has been identified in DNA present in the plaque on the teeth of a skeleton unearthed during archaeological excavations under St Giles Cathedral in 1981.

A great post from @tessmachling.bsky.social setting out the scale of the UK metal detecting mess. Having no effective regulatory framework is incredible for a signatory of the Valletta Convention. There is no escaping the negligent leadership on the issue. License metal detecting now. 🏺🦣

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.
