I think we should stop dictators who committed crimes against humanity. Unless said crimes involved bombing foreign countries. Or beating up people that look like immigrants. Dictators are also fine if I'm the one to put them in charge. What was I talking about again? Something about oil. I think.

Artificial difficulty. Button masher. Depth. Respecting the player's time. Value per hour. Game feel. Predatory. Parryslop. Outdated. Quality of life. Arbitrary mechanics. Player expression.

Imagine if we talked about all old art like we do with retro games.

"Counterpoint is an outdated compositional technique. Baroque music was only counterpoint-heavy due to the limitations of harpsichords, we're past that now".

People still release trailers where I end up having to dig into websites and steam pages to actually understand what type of gameplay there is

The developers of Mario's Early Years for DOS customized the game for three of their children. Inputting hidden codes at the start of the game can launch it in a personalized "Marissa", "Ali" and "Josh" mode whereby the in-game voices address the child by name.

Dunno who needs to hear this but I'd def not recommend diving into game design theory during active dev. It's like begging for creative paralysis. Doing it between projects and at the start of them when everything's really malleable is the only healthy approach IMO.

I would like the child sacrificed to stop, either by we stop doing them, or we acquire an orb with some kind of enchantment, I don't want to be too prescriptive about it, but an orb or other artifact with magical properties that causes them to stop.

It's interesting that pixel art games from the 90s always look retro, while vector games from the late 70s and early 80s still look like they came from the future.

The sex/violence thing is so weird cause like most of us are gonna fuck in some point in our lives and mostly have it be a good time for everyone involved, where the few of us who drive a spike through a dude's brain are likely to go to jail.

DK must make a funny face, as opposed to Lanky Kong, who naturally has one.

In Donkey Kong Bananza, DK's banana awareness is tied to how far the camera is zoomed out. If the bananas are offscreen, this can create the impression of him playing a silly game with the camera where he makes a funny face only when the player isn't looking closely.

N64 have only aged like shit if you play them on emulators with default settings. Do yourself a favor and use a good CRT filter. Or y' know, an actual CRT.
