The Bitter Southerner is out here with apparel to meet the times. I highly recommend their merch and everything else they sell.

One of the privileges of being Chair of the Public Policy & Management Dept at @priceschool.usc.edu is learning more about the rich & vibrant field of public admin (PA).

If I was a social scientist looking to pivot or expand job prospects, I’d do everything I could to genuinely join PA.

New research from Jieun Kim, a doctoral candidate at the School of Public Affairs, finds that public support isn’t always the deciding factor in climate adaptation. Instead, strong government capacity, staff expertise and strategic alliances can drive solutions.

The idea that pools can be a “third place” for people to meet and chill has existed for decades, @olgakhazan.bsky.social writes. Clean, swimmable water shouldn’t be something only the rich can access.

When I was 14, my mom and I had a cleaning business where we cleaned a trucking terminal. I did that until I moved to Athens to get my PhD. Spending time cleaning up shit has given me a) appreciation for my current job and b) incredible respect for service work that is all too often disrespected.
Here’s a video of Stephen Miller in high school screaming that he’s “sick and tired of being told to pick up my trash, when we have plenty of janitors who are paid to do it for us.”

This is the sociopath shaping our immigration policy and so much more

a sitting Democratic Mayor held in a secret location, with no contact with the outside, for an unknown length of time
Alina Habba tells Fox News that Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested and is being held in a secret location right now.

Martha MacCallum: "Where is he being held?"

Habba: 'I'm not going to speak to that right now. He's obviously in New Jersey."

Always worth saying: the ongoing choice to make SCOTUS opaque and hieratic rather than democratically accessible is a deeply ideological one, meant to create the false impression the country's most important decisions are made via oracular revelation rather than by nine human beings like you and me.

More on the NSF censorship of misinformation research, broader cuts (esp social science & education), & now overhead reductions. This is a full attack on science. In addition to #saveNSF, we need to actively inform the public about the value of taxpayer investments in STEM across all fed agencies 🧵
Editorial: Censoring the scientific enterprise, one grant at a time
Recent grant terminations are a symptom of a widespread attack on science.

Even if you’re not sick now, you or someone you love will be.

Research takes years if not decades.

Killing research today stops us from finding cures tomorrow.
