📝 New blog post:

Are we using tech to serve the learning - or to compete with TikTok?

I explore gamification, dopamine, teacher reels & the rise of AR/VR in lessons. Not anti-tech, but definitely pro-curriculum.

In #MathsToday with Year 8, we were finding the surface area of cubes and cuboids. Plenty of scaffolding in the first task to give the students confidence before moving on to more standard questions.

Awel we doen daar gewoon wat extra werk he. Want leraars Nederlands zijn er in overvloed.

This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Y7 number lines: if I tell you the end numbers, what are the others?

They found this much more difficult than I expected - most could ‘see’ simple scales, but found it really hard to articulate a process when the numbers got more difficult.

Well I did it. I made this daily puzzle in @geogebra.org

I didn't use the same configuration of pieces as Dragon Fjord, but it is still the same idea. There are lots of apps I could have used, but I wanted to see if I could make it myself. ♾️ ∞

Given that 45 is the ninth triangular number, this must mean that

2025 = 1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³

Unless someone does a Futurama, none of us will be around for the sum of the first ten cubes.

Used my blackboard tool "live" for the first time this week. It's handy if you don't have a visualiser with you.

a) Choose three different digits that sum to 10.
b) Find all 6 two-digit numbers you can make from them.
c) Add them up.
d) Explain why you all get the same answer.
