Shapiro: He rose to some prominence by writing a book about growing up in Appalachia, where there are a whole lot of people who get SNAP. He made millions of dollars off telling their stories, and then he turned his damn back on those very people he likes to write about and claim as his own.

For those asking why so many of us are focused on the SNAP situation and pushing to get the facts out… 42 million people losing access to food right before the holidays could cause chaos like this country’s never seen before. People deserve to know who’s really responsible.

I was in conservative churches for 28 years. Never heard a sermon on the duty to feed the poor, care for widows and orphans, visit prisoners, not even once. Rare appeals to donate to the Mission Board's Hunger Relief Program. Poverty was treated as a personal moral failing if not divine punishment.
