Really unenthusiastic about today.

Just applied for a FT teaching position for the first time in years. Zero expectations and zero regrets for knocking out this app in a 48-hour turnaround. Also: I have some standup friends and colleagues.

It’s not hard to figure out: these guys think that HRT is the magical formula needed to keep their docile sex objects from transforming into terrifying old crones. If it’s good for women, well that’s just incidental

I don’t get everything right but I’ll say this: those gluten-free beet brownies I made per request this weekend? SUBLIME.

I tripled my modest monthly donation to local food pantry. I was raised on “it’s the church’s job not the government’s” to help poor/hungry/homeless but I’m not expecting American Christian evangelical churches to rise to the occasion in this manufactured crisis by their Lord and Savior Trump

Maybe “I’d like to respond with an original thought of my own…” then say whatever the heck you feel like

As a professor I would super love this
deadass i do not know how i'm supposed to respond to my classmates' discussion posts when 80% of them sound like they were made with ChatGPT

it's a rahaeli list, so I assume it's good and have applied it
I haven't had the capacity to keep up with moderation lists for a bit, but this one is really obvious, so I'm stealing some energy from Future Me: a list for the extremely obvious wave of inauthentic accounts following today's newly-created US gov accounts

My 9th grader is fully disgusted with getting AI feedback on his work. My college students are baffled by my handwritten marginalia and feedback, and no-LLM-tolerance. Conclusion: we can reach them, but only if we take them seriously enough to require the real work from ourselves & them
I strongly urge everyone to not just read this warning from @marcwatkins.bsky.social, but heed it, and be vocal and forceful pushing back against using AI to grade student writing. This must be anathema if we're going to have a world where learning means something. substack.com/inbox/post/1...

AI advocates, to a person, are literally unable to tell good from bad. When you say you can, they think you're *lying*.
AI advocates fundamentally have no understanding of creativity and my God, it’s grim to behold. Even on the days when hitting my book’s wordcount target is like drawing blood from a stone, I don’t want a fucking machine to do it for me. And not just because the result would be soulless shit.

So, say you’re an alt-ac third-space staff/adjunct person who’s scheduled for a presentation in a class that was arranged weeks ahead of time, and you walk through a rainstorm and flooded campus to find a note on the whiteboard from the prof casually cancelling class. How mad should you be?
