Many thanks to @journaloflinganth.bsky.social for featuring my recent article on online nationalism in China. It was a great opportunity to think further about the relationship between mass media and personal lives!!

Exactly what my dissertation is trying to understand...
From escape rooms to beach resorts, emotions are now products. Hochschild, Ahmed, Illouz, Giddens, Massumi, Rosa—they all warned us: #identity, #meaning, and #feeling are #upforsale.

When was the last time you paid to feel something?

Tip for PhD applicants reaching out to prospective advisors: Don’t use an LLM to write these emails. It’s not a great first impression to express your admiration for a recent paper the faculty member published if that paper does not exist.

We are witnessing a historic rebirth of worker power.

If you want a better life for you and your children, join or support a union.

Along with most professors in Texas, I’m frequently refreshing Texas legislature updates on SB37, which passed the senate and is about to be voted on in the House. It would fundamentally change higher education—curriculum, hiring, governance—for the worse. And proponents aren’t hiding their aims.

Hey all, here's a post at @ssrc.org about how anti-trans talking points are getting wrapped into Google's AI search results.

AI search not only cites anti-trans disinfo, but sanitizes it, making practices like conversion therapy sound legitimate and safe.
Anti-Transgender Disinformation in the Age of Algorithmic Search Summaries
Recently Google introduced a feature in its search engine that algorithmically creates summaries of one's search results. Though it could be viewed as a useful tool, researcher Anna Beers argues this ...

Did a lead test in my yard soil just recently and the contamination right on the surface is HIGH—that “dust” you see def has heavy metals in it!

Indoors, close your windows and filter your air.
