Par AFP © 2025 AFP Arianespace prévoit de lancer deux satellites de navigation Galileo avec Ariane 6 le 17 décembre, la quatrième mission commerciale de la fusée européenne et la dernière de l'année, a annoncé jeudi l'entreprise. Arianespace, chargée de commercialiser et exploiter le lanceur lourd, "placera en orbite avec Ariane 6 deux nouveaux satellites de la constellation Galileo pour l'Agence spatiale européenne (ESA), au nom de la Commission européenne et de l'Agence de l'Union européenne pour le programme spatial", a-t-elle indiqué dans un communiqué. Ces engins, tirés depuis Kourou (Guyane française), "rejoindront la constellation des satellites Galileo de première génération pour améliorer la précision, la disponibilité et la robustesse du système mondial de navigation par satellite de l'Union européenne", selon la même source. Ces satellites "désignés SAT 33 et SAT 34 seront placés sur une orbite moyenne (MEO) à environ 22.922 km d'altitude. Leur séparation interviendra 3 heures et 55 minutes après le décollage. Tous deux rejoindront ensuite progressivement leur orbite opérationnelle finale à 23.222 km d'altitude", a détaillé Arianespace. A la mi-septembre, Arianespace avait révisé en baisse, à quatre contre cinq auparavant, le nombre de lancements commerciaux d'Ariane 6 en 2025, tout en promettant de "plus ou moins" doubler ce chiffre en 2026. Depuis le début de l'année, elle a réussi ses trois premiers lancements commerciaux: le 6 mars avec un satellite militaire, le 13 août avec un engin météorologique et le 4 novembre avec le satellite Sentinel-1D pour le programme européen d'observation de la Terre Copernicus. Les tirs de 2025 s'effectuent avec une version de la fusée dotée de deux propulseurs d'appoint ("boosters"), dite Ariane 62. En revanche, la mission suivante, prévue en 2026 à une date non encore précisée, aura recours à la version à quatre propulseurs d'appoint, Ariane 64, dotée d'une capacité d'emport en orbite basse doublée à 21,6 tonnes, pour mettre en orbite des satellites de la constellation à haut débit Project Kuiper de la société Amazon, récemment rebaptisée Amazon Leo. Il s'agira du premier des 18 lancements prévus par le contrat signé entre Arianespace et le géant américain, annoncé en avril 2022. L'entreprise faisait partie des trois sociétés retenues par la société de Jeff Bezos pour lancer au total 3.236 satellites en orbite terrestre basse, à quelque 600 km d'altitude, et la seule non-américaine.
