I have a complaint about Avi Loeb's latest work and I want to speak to management.

This is not the quality of pseudoscience infotainment to which I have grown accustomed
Teasing the public with fraudulent or self-deluded promises of aliens used to mean something. It took work. It meant slapping together…

If anyone needs a dose of courage right now, might I suggest listening to metal music? Hearing angry words blasting in my ears helped me a lot yesterday. I feel stronger now. So, I can highly recommend this. Pick your favorite sub-type and go for it. 🤘

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

That creative thing you loved doing growing up? Try really hard to make time for it, whether it's playing clarinet or acting in musical theater or making pottery or quilling or quilting or stargazing or whatever. If you can manage to keep doing it (or to pick it back up later!) you'll be glad.
people over 30 quote this with some life advice for the rest of us?

Every post I read about the AA/Blackhawk crash at DCA last night breaks my heart. My boyfriend (an USAF vet & aviation history nerd) is shaken to his core. Those with empathetic hearts are mourning. I am so sorry to the victims' families and friends. I am so sorry that this happened. I am so sorry.

Lots of the people behind your favorite robots could use some help
Folks, a huge number of people at JPL have been affected by the LA wildfires, with many losing their homes.

If you can, consider contributing to a fund that's been set up to help them:

Seems like a good time for me (or anyone) to donate blood. I'm in Maryland so my blood probably won't go to California, but anything I do to help means less need here, so more resources can go there.

There are tons of places to donate as well, just make sure the donation pages are vetted & true.
If any of this helps…

Haven't done the social media posting thing for so long, it's taking a while to get back in the habit. I'm not sure what to say anymore. One thought that has been rolling around in my head is that I feel compelled to write #poetry again. I haven't felt this need in a long time. Might post some here.

According to the rules of the internet, I now need to provide pictures of my cat. She is officially "Pet of the Month" at our apartment complex this month, of which she has no idea. Anyway, this is my kitty in her Halloween costume last week. #cats #TacoCat
