here is my story about how Zohran's focus on community amid the loneliness epidemic helped young people connect their politics to an organizing infrastructure, that interviewed ZM, and does not use the NYT's framing of "they don't know how to make friends" :-) and also ran 4 days before NYT's lol
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

What if there were already some sort of contest where people were able to choose between them, I wonder how that would go

And Cuomo used AI to draft his housing plan after famously being head of HUD
I like how he copies Mamdani's talking points about lowering rent and mentions he has his experience as the reason to vote for him, BUT HE WAS SECRETARY OF FUCKING HUD AND GOVERNOR OF NY AND NEVER LOWERED FUCKING SHIT.

Zohran Mamdani’s win has inspired over 3400 young people to raise their hands to run for office just since Tuesday. It’s now @runforsomething.net’s biggest candidate recruitment moment since the election.

A new generation of leaders is here.

They’re terrified of the people realizing their power. They’re terrified of anyone who actually wants to disrupt the status quo for anything besides profit.

📢 DON’T RANK CUOMO! 📢
The entire establishment from both sides is aiming all of its money and firepower against Zohran Mamdani. Very telling. This is what they're threatened by and who they are willing to crush.

I'll just say this before heading out. If you're a young person in NYC, THIS IS YOUR TIME. The next couple of decades in this city are going to be shaped by what happens on Tuesday. Be part of the team that is turning the page on politicians like Cuomo. There are better choices.

It’s important to understand that when a white person says “this has never happened before” or compares some oppressive behavior to a foreign regime, but it *did* happen here to Black/brown people for years/decades/centuries, it represents a massive blow to solidarity. It’s selfish.

i'm furious at what this CR would do to DC.

Schumer thinks that it's ok to sacrifice education and housing funding for DC to avoid a shutdown. fine, think that.

but i hope DC won't let him walk the streets in peace afterwards. i hope he gets dozens of daily reminders of what his betrayal costs.

Imagine being in a position of power and having the privilege to be able to stand up and say this isn’t right and we won’t vote with the Republican’s and then saying this mealy mouth bullshit. I am a proud New Yorker but many of our politicians are failing us.
A shutdown would give Donald Trump the keys to the city, state, and country.

Musk has said he wants a shutdown, and reporting has shown he is already making plans to use the shutdown to expedite his destruction of key government programs and services.

I was a per diem social worker at Planned Parenthood as well as a volunteer for 8.5 years. I got to see her speak a couple of times and met her at a book signing. I told her that I worked at PP and admired her so much. She said she admired my work at PP. She said it so earnestly I believed she did🩷

This is anecdotal but I think it may have something to do with control. I’m a therapist that works with many teens and most of them don’t use substances due to being afraid they will “lose control.” They had very little control during the pandemic as they were always home and the world was scary.
“Kids who were in eighth grade at the start of the pandemic will be graduating from high school this year, and this unique cohort has ushered in the lowest rates of substance use we’ve seen in decades."
Reported use of most drugs among adolescents remained low in 2024
New NIH-funded data show lower use of most substances continues following the COVID-19 pandemic.
