Jamal Khashoggi's widow: I did feel disappointed by Trump describing my husband in this way and justifying the crime. There is nothing to justify the crime. And he's taking away, as well, the freedom for journalists to ask a question. What is the difference then between the US and any dictatorship?

Do it! Do it here, in the US. Microgrids everywhere. Decentralize power.
Meanwhile, in South Korea: "Starting at the end of November, public parking lots with more than 80 spaces will be required to install solar power generation facilities. This obligation applies not only to newly constructed parking lots but also to existing ones."

This is not hard to understand. Modern professional work life is often quite hostile to families.
The option to work from home has been shown to increase birth rates. It’s one of the only policies that has been successful in doing so.

Family size around the world is dropping. That choice by couples is triggering a population shift that's sending shock waves through economies.

Kind of true. Dem party as a projected fractal hologram of the discontents of the left.
Everyone hates the Democratic Party, but the wild thing is that every faction hates its own bespoke caricature of the party. The caricatures don't even line up! Everybody gets their own special Party of the Mind to hate, a repository for all their resentments & everything they think has gone wrong.

I am trying to make my way thru the podcast where Klein invites Coates to discuss. I find Klein excruciatingly naive… this is not a game, man!
Since the Ezra & Ta-Nehisi discussion is still happening: the main point I think most are missing is that Klein is saying the role of the journalist-intellectual is to do strategic politics, whereas Coates says the role of the journalist-intellectual is to tell the truth

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption.

Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow.

It's a journalist's job to ask questions of government officials, no matter which party is in power. That often means respectfully knocking on doors to get answers people deserve to know.

Citizen-led proposal in Berlin to create the biggest car-free area in the world. This is the area within the S-bahn ring, which is larger than Manhattan. Only 14% of trips in that area are made via car, but 60% of street space is dedicated to them. The economics? Savings largely outweigh costs
Berlin citizens propose the world’s largest car-free zone

Kudos to Stephen Colbert for speaking out against Paramount’s capitulation to Donald Trump.

I’ve always enjoyed his work — especially The Colbert Report.

Here’s a clip from when I was a guest back in 2010.

NEW: Of the 230+ Venezuelans deported to El Salvador:
• Almost half had immigration cases that were not yet decided
• More than 60 had pending asylum claims, some just days away from final hearings

These men had followed U.S. immigration procedures. Then Trump changed the rules.
He Came to the U.S. to Support His Sick Child. He Was Detained. Then He Disappeared.
Like most of the more than 230 Venezuelan men deported to a Salvadoran prison, José Manuel Ramos Bastidas had followed U.S. immigration rules. Then Trump rewrote them.

Here's Colbert on July 14 making fun of Paramount for paying Trump $16 million. It's hard not to see CBS canceling his show through this lens.

"I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles. It's big fat bribe."
