With context, NYT intimidating a Black journalist into retraction/self-muting for fact-checking inaccuracies and pointing out the sketchy morality of a source may not actually BE calling him a slur with know-your-place aggression, but it sure FEELS like they accomplished that in effect.

One of the most harmful legacies of mainline Christian theology amongst progressives is the tendency of Christians to denounce other Christians with different beliefs as “not real Christians”. The result - in addition to stifling dissent - is that Christians who accept this framing (1/2)
This is what happens when you have a belief system that places its deepest value on questioning and hold it up against one that considers questions its greatest sin.

One final thing: the only reason I got the emails is because CBC as a public broadcaster is open to a level of scrutiny other media aren't. That's a good thing, and managers making tone deaf decisions =/= a reason to defund or abolish the corp. But we have to hold them to a very high standard.

If you go back and read the newspaper and other reports from the time, it was like a modern miracle. Kids literally in a coma waking up after getting insulin. The accounts are incredibly moving.
