Theoretically, this eventually turns into the “how do I ensure my doomsday bunker guards don’t eat me?” problem that all the “futurists” say is the number one question they’re asked by billionaires.
“More and more cabinet members — Rubio, Miller, Noem — live on military bases now, & it's another parallel to Iraq, where the administration lived in the Green Zone. There’s something deeply unhealthy about a society where leaders are literally shut off from the communities that they govern.”
Don Moynihan on "Purge, Merge, and Surge"
"Instead of surging in Iraq, it’s happening here in American cities."

who creates the lively art and music scenes if the rent is too high? who makes cultural life? who serves you food or washes your dishes? who creates the fancy little restaurants that draw you to urban living? affordable housing is at the heart of what makes city life worthwhile.

And indeed, dozens of major outlets like BBC, CNN and Sky News have aired them, in part or in full, often without context

I don’t have much with the UK royals but the Prince Charles Cinema and the Queen Elizabeth Hall are awesome.

recalling the late '90s dotcom boom and the massive overbuilding of fiber networks, which went unused for years but still had utility (and were fully in use within a decade). by comparison, I'm struggling to envision how data centers full of c. 2025 GPUs will get usefully repurposed in 2038

Pathetic.

The EU playing client state for the US and it's indefensible threats on behalf of a genocidal state.
Iran must never acquire the bomb.

With tensions in the Middle East at a new peak, stability must be the priority.

And respect for international law is critical.

Now is the moment for Iran to engage in a credible diplomatic solution.

The negotiating table is the only place to end this crisis.

We could have used all this to make better search engines. Instead of an LLM regurgitating something it found in a niche corner of the web, it could have linked you to a personal blog. It could have connected you with someone who is thinking about the same things you are.

You take the guy that did Cowboy Bebop. And you add Bonobo _and_ Floating Points for the soundtrack. The result? Lazarus. Is it any good? Meh.

But at least we got a great soundtrack out of it, that will do great with a better book!

BRING BACK SKIP WEEK
When I lived in Leicester, 30 years back now, we had 'skip week'. Every quarter, for a week, the council would drop a skip at the end of the road and everyone would turf their bulky waste into it, replacing it if it filled up. I got all sorts of good stuff out of that skip!
