People don't understand that you're just one bad experience away from being disabled, and it can happen to anyone. I know someone who got into an awful car accident in his late teens, he's quadriplegic now and needs caretakers to help care for him and get him in and out of his wheelchair everyday.

Never ask someone why they have a disability aid or what their disability is unless the person with the disability brought it up first. I personally am happy to answer questions about my mobility aids but not everyone is. It can make people feel excluded & judged, even if you don't mean it that way.
When I first looked into getting a cane for my hEDS around age 31 I felt the twinge of shame that comes from living in an ableist society. That feeling pissed me off 😡 So, I did the only logical thing. I got a bright pink one so it would have no choice but to be entirely visible. NO more shame! :3

You don't need to be old to use a disability aid, and if you need a disability aid you should use one. Whether it's a cane, a joint brace, a walker, crutches, a driving grocery cart, a wheelchair, a service dog, medications, etc. make it visible! That's how we defeat the stigma :3

It's important to know the difference between a service dog & an ESA. A service dog has been trained to perform a SPECIFIC TASK to mitigate a disability & is allowed anywhere. An emotional support animal provides COMFORT to their owner. They are allowed in no-pet housing, but not in public.

Note that this is the law in the US (where I am very unfortunately located 😭). Be sure to look up the laws around service dogs where you are so you can help make the world safer and happier for service dog handlers everywhere \^.^/
There are only two questions employees can legally ask someone with a service dog: 1) “Is this dog a service dog?” and 2) “What tasks is this dog trained to perform?” Unless the dog has been observed causing legitimate problems, you cannot legally ask the handler to leave the premises.
