I took part in InkJam2023 over the weekend- 72 hrs to make a game using narrative scripting tool Ink. This year's theme was 'In the blink of an eye' - a phrase I traced back to 1 Corinthians 15:53, where bodily resurrection is discussed - among other things...

Happy Friday 13th to those who celebrate!

Here's a 5-minute interactive horror story - UNDER THE MOON.

This is a basic export from Inky. I'm hoping to 'remaster' it with updated UI for Halloween - if I can figure out how!

CW:

• alcohol
• implied violence

Cocoon was OUTSTANDING! It teaches you a whole game language in a matter of hours. It makes you an expert in its design. It's equally challenging and supportive - I loved how it used blocking exits to say: everything you need to solve this is here. Many QOL touches like that throughout. STUNNING.

Spent the bulk of the day reading @kaittremblay.bsky.social’s book on collaborative world building - so good, so many new ideas! (An early aside I really liked describes how writers can use synecdoche to turn players into co-authors 😍) I can already tell I’ll be returning to this book A LOT.

Which reminds me of a Bruce Sterling passage I read a long, long time ago which has stayed with me. "Get weird. Get way weird. Get dangerously weird. Get sophisticatedly, thoroughly weird, and don’t do it halfway. Put every ounce of horsepower you have behind it."

I’ve just finished re-reading Grant Naylor’s RED DWARF for the first time in maybe 25 years and:
•It’s so good
•I can’t believe it’s out of print
•I can’t believe it was written AFTER the show, feels very much like its own thing
•I reeeeally can’t believe it’s out of print
•Thank smeg for libraries
