🧵Yesterday’s trade deal is predicated on forcing the EU to buy more US oil and gas—specifically triple what it imports now. Lots of scoffing among the data crowd.

Fantasy or not, achievable or not, the fight against further #LNG build-out just got even harder. 1/4

The EU’s ‘fantasy’ $750B energy promise to Trump
Technical issues, limited U.S. supplies and the EU’s minimal control over imports render the pledge infeasible, experts say.

Greenest #Sotu ever? Richard Nixon on Jan. 22, 1970 - three months before the first #EarthDay. Here's just a snippet. So wild to compare Nixon's justification for regulations and the big cost of protecting water, land, air to Trump's destructive demolition.

Today's US EO orders the Attorney General to identify + take expeditious action to stop enforcement of "all State & local laws... purporting to address “climate change” or involving “environmental, social, and governance” initiatives, “environmental justice,” carbon or “greenhouse gas” emissions."
This executive order confirms that. They are attacking all "state laws" that address climate change, ESG, environmental justice and/or greenhouse gases.

🚨 This is important as this is some of the foundational weather data for initialization of all weather models, not just NOAA ones. In other words, even the ECMWF (Euro) models could see degraded performance over time if this becomes a regular issue. Very troubling stuff here.
More fallout from the indiscriminate NWS firings:

"Effective immediately, and until further notice, the [NWS] is temporarily suspending some weather balloon launches in Albany, New York, and Gray, Maine, due to a lack of Weather Forecast Office (WFO) staffing."

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.

This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

The paper is a long read but open to the public-try it! I personally find it deeply compelling, although maybe out of the scientific mainstream (i.e. IPCC). But his established record warrants real consideration - both his articulation of the crisis and his contemplation of our needed responses.
