Heyo! Here’s a good group of food folks to follow.
The team behind the magazine: We've put together a Heavy Table starter pack chock-a-block with writers / editors / artists / generally talented folks. Mostly but not entirely Minnesota-based. Lotta food knowledge in one place. Cheers!

I am struck by the way the local press is referring to the use of “less lethal weapons” on lawful protesters as if this is a good thing. And my next thoughts are Black Panthers, Kent State, AIM. Precedent doesn’t make violence against dissent legal or right.

On the topic of pie, my guys Steve and Alan at Stockholm Pie’s national awards are no b.s. the sour cream raisin, the coconut cream, whatever fruit is their seasonal special. But really, the only bad pie is no pie at all.

My dear nephew @revnaps.bsky.social sent us a Thanksgiving turkey. What a lovely surprise. And unusual too! Anybody have a great recipe for turkey necks?

Making a squash soup recipe from the NYT. Calls for “1 large butternut squash, about 1 1/2 pounds.” That’s a city squash, hon. Out here that’s a teeny weeny butternut.

Just made the spouse prove to me that the lyrics to America’s “Ventura Highway” really do include the line “Alligator lizards in the air.” I was alive in the ‘70s, and have mercifully forgotten most of the worst bits of the decade. There’s only so much bruising my psyche can handle.

Spouse decided to make Tuna Hasselhoff for dinner tonight. I wish I could say it’s inexplicably beloved in Germany, but really, it’s fancy tinned tuna mixed with leftover rice, aged cheddar, sour cream, and whatever herbs are left in the garden. Maybe some lemon.
