Your Therapists’ Notes Could Become Fodder For AI

Something that I think we need to be clear about is that internet scholars (critical and otherwise) have made this clear for at least two decades and the rest of the academy (and the public) responded with a collective "what happens online isn't real," so forgive me if I'm like "water is ALSO wet."
"It’s no longer tenable... to delineate between the digital world and 'real life.' The bile we swim in daily, sometimes for hours on end, is corroding the virtues that make liberal democratic life tenable."

@aselrod.bsky.social is right. From shooters to voters, the internet is driving toxic anger.

Seems like there's a lot of chatter among folks looking to migrate off of bsky.social as a PDS, and out to other options.

Friendly reminder for white people like me, that Blacksky is for Black folks. There's a related PDS for people that aren't Black too, but Blacksky isn't for us white people.

Like I said ...

Think twice before you amplify thinly-source stories. Even if you're expressing skepticism, you don't want to give them more oxygen. One alternative: take a screenshot and draw a couple of big red question marks over it. Or, just don't amplify it!
Yep. And people who shared it -- even with commentary saying they were skeptical -- were boosting disinfo.

I got to share a stage with the incomparable Karen Hao this morning and she is The Truth in every way. ♥️
OpenAI is anything but “open”—very early on, it left behind that marketing tag to become increasingly closed, elitist, and inherently anti-democratic. Empire of AI had a rather different subtitle in its UK edition: “Inside the reckless race of total domination.”

No, Chicago is not using salt trucks to block ICE, despite viral claims
The city told NBC News in a statement that the salt trucks were there “to support public safety efforts related to a planned protest and the Taste of Chicago.”

i don't think most understand how big this is.

currently, bsky forks do not give selfhosted PDSes the ability to use 2FA which leave users unprotected from brute force attacks; the fix below stops those attacks

it also stops me from rotating my password every 120hrs to a new randomized password 🫠
2FA is now live on selfhosted.social 👀. Working on the documentation now to set it up.
