I do think yesterday’s results reinforced the dynamic that while much of the American leadership class is chickenshit, most of the electorate is not

I would like the DNC to take a look at the nuances in ranking questions.👇

A high-ranked issue *does not* mean that voters do not care about lower-ranked issues. Rankings impose an artificial lens on political issues.

People want their economy *and* their democracy, too.
64% of America think country now too polarized to solve nation’s problems. It is broken.

"Polarization" viewed as 2nd most important issue.

Exploiting social media echo chambers to spread misinformation (about immigrants, crime, economy, vaccines, etc) BIG part of this...

there's this assumption by the admin that there is an infinite supply of buff KKK members ready to fill the ranks of the military and ICE and I have bad news for them both about the overall number of KKK members and their general fitness level
Something our glorious Secretary of War does not seem to have considered is that the reason military PT and grooming standards, plus policies for EEO and abuse reporting, are the way they are is because they're necessary for recruitment and retention

One reason I do not think Trump is going to create a 1,000 year reich is because he failed to cancel a middling funnyman and immediately pivoted to trying to outlaw not having a headache.

Remember supply/demand is a static, relatively simple model. In general equilibrium, wages can do much more interesting things over time.
Serious scholars have examined what happens when we change the number of H1-B visas issued.

Cities that get more H1-B immigrants subsequently see the wages of natives *rise* substantially.

Skilled immigrants bring new ideas, fill labor shortages and make us all more productive.

The adamant elite refusal to call bullshit is a big part of How We Got Here.

The prevailing cultural attitude for years is you must not, under any circumstances, treat anything as bad faith. You are obligated to find some reasonable idea and engage with that, even if you distort to get there.

"who was president in 2020" remains the most difficult question in the world for a sizable chunk of americans, professional commentators included
The mainstream/centrist punditocracy seems to exist in an alternate universe around discussing protests where 1) BLM happened while Joe Biden was President and 2) it resulted in an electoral wipeout for Dems

Even the Los Angeles Police Chief, Jim McDonnell, made it clear: the people protesting immigration raids were not the ones causing violence.

During a Sunday evening press conference, McDonnell condemned the violence as “disgusting”

Each year I explain to my students that legitimacy is a slippery concept, hard to measure, and seemingly easy for some regimes to ignore.

But a loss of legitimacy can bite regimes at unexpected moments. The most durable autocracies have sophisticated strategies to burnish their legitimacy.

Vance's Easter visit to Rome clogged its streets with a 40-vehicle entourage. He also demanded the Coliseum be closed so he and his family could tour it alone. Tourists who properly booked slots in advance got screwed.

He's apparently the first to make that demand. Then he didn't bother to show up.
